MSPS
MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
You are invited to become a member of the Missouri State Poetry Society, which was incorporated November 1, 1998. This organization is now the official state member of the national Federation of State Poetry Societies. We plan four major activities for the coming year: a winter contest, a spring anthology, a summer contest, and a fall convention. We welcome your participation in all of these activities.
We currently have nine chapters in our state organization, chapters in Springfield, Bolivar (two chapters), Mountain View, Lebanon , Independence, De Soto, Kansas City, and St. Louis. Members of our chapters upon payment of their local dues are automatically members of our state society and the national federation. Our chapters set their own dues but send $7 per member for the annual membership fee to the state society, which in turn sends $3 per member to the national federation.
If you live in Missouri, we invite you to consider forming a local chapter of at least five members to affiliate with Missouri State Poetry Society. If you would like to form a chapter, please contact Bill Lower at the address given below or e-mail him at bill.lower@gmail.com.
If you are not a member of a local chapter, you may still belong to our society by becoming a member-at-large. A member-at-large pays annual dues of $14. This membership entitles you to receive your newsletters at your e-mailing address and to enter the national federation's contests at a reduced rate and our state contests at a two-for-one rate, which means you pay a $1 fee to enter two poems when non-members pay a $1 fee for each poem. We have 5 categories in our winter contest (plus two categories for Missouri youth) and 5 categories in our summer contest.
All members of local chapters and members-at-large are entitled to publish poems in Grist, our state anthology, and are invited to our state convention, for which there is no registration fee. Members also are invited to publish poems in Spare Mule. Poems published in this state newsletter also appear on our web site at Spare Mule.
We hope you will accept our invitation to join us. If you do not belong to a local chapter, send $14 to our secretary and become a member-at-large of the Missouri State Poetry Society. Send a money-order or check (made out to MSPS) to
